Important notice

All items are carefully inspected and any marks or damage are noted within the lot description. We do however strongly recommend that you undertake a thorough close-up inspection prior to placing any bids. If you are not satisfied with the information shown and would like more details, please contact us on info@europeanwhiskyauctions.com and our team will be happy to help. It is also important to note that lots will be sold as seen and described.

This bottle does not appear to be leaking. However, with older bottles it can happen that leakage occurs during transport due to the cork drying out. Although we make every effort to package the bottle carefully, we cannot guarantee that this will not happen. Leakige during transport is not covered by insurance.

How does shipping work?

To ensure safe and reliable delivery, we partner exclusively with FedEx for all shipments. Before placing a bid, we strongly recommend checking our shipping rates and country availability to avoid any unexpected issues. If your country is not listed, unfortunately, we are unable to ship whisky to you (at this moment). However, you are always welcome to use an alternative shipping address.

Shipping rates are based on the total weight of the bottle(s) and/or the volume occupied by the packaging. For example, large bottles and packages take up more space. If this is the case, you will see this reflected in the number of slots listed with the lot.

Shipments can be protected with optional insurance against loss and breakage. Please note: leakage during transport is not covered by insurance.

Excise duties

If you're a resident of the European Union and you win a lot, please note that excise duty will be added to your invoice. This is not optional, and the excise duty rate will be based on the bottle's destination country.

What is excise duty?

Excise duty is a tax that applies to certain goods, including alcohol. It is separate from VAT and is usually calculated based on the amount of alcohol in the product — the higher the alcohol content, the higher the excise.

For whisky, this tax must be paid before the bottle can be legally sold or consumed. Each EU country sets its own excise rates and rules, which is why excise duty often needs to be paid again when a bottle is shipped across borders.

  • Are you buying from outside the EU? No problem – no excise duty will be added. Customs of your country will take care of this.

We do this to stay compliant with EU tax and duty laws. If you're unsure what this means for you, feel free to contact us before bidding.
