Lot 22277

What this bottle would
actually cost you

Every charge on Lagavulin 1979 ~ The Distillers Edition, worked out to the cent for a bid of your choosing. Change the bid, the destination or how you want it delivered, and the whole sum follows.

No bid is placed from this page — you bid on the lot itself.

Your scenario

Tell us what you would
be willing to bid

This page places no bids. Nothing you do here is seen by the auction, reaches the seller or commits you to anything — it is a sum, and it is yours to play with. Bidding happens on the lot page and nowhere else.

Lot 22277

Lagavulin 1979 ~ The Distillers Edition

Private seller — no VAT on the hammer price

We have filled in the next step in the bidding. Type over it, or use the buttons to move a full bid step at a time. Typing a figure here does not bid it.

How you want the bottle

This is what decides the excise duty as much as the shipping: duty falls due the moment the bottle leaves our bonded warehouse, and it falls due in the country it goes to.

The destination sets the shipping rate, the excise duty rate and the VAT rate all three.

What you would pay

Tap any line to see how it is worked out.

Winning bid € 14,00

The bid itself. If it is the last one standing when the lot closes, this becomes the hammer price and everything below is worked out from it.

Buyer's commission (10%) € 1,40

Our commission on the hammer price. It is what the auction costs you; the seller pays us nothing.

Excise duty € 5,50

Duty on the alcohol itself, worked out per bottle from its volume and its strength at the rate Netherlands charges. It has nothing to do with what the bottle sells for: a cheap bottle and an expensive one of the same size and strength carry exactly the same duty.

Excise handling € 0,50

What it costs us to clear the duty and document it, at € 0,50 per bottle.

Shipping € 13,04

Our rate to Netherlands for a parcel this size, packed to travel. A lot of several bottles ships as one parcel wherever it fits.

Transit insurance Not charged

Not insured. A bottle lost or broken in transit would be covered only by the carrier's standard liability, which for a rare bottle is rarely enough to replace it.

VAT (21%) € 3,14

Charged on our commission and services only. The hammer price itself carries no VAT, because this bottle comes from a private seller — that is the margin scheme, and it is why a private lot works out cheaper than a business one at the same bid.

Subtotal excluding VAT € 34,44
Total you pay € 37,58

Bid € 14,00 and win, and € 37,58 is what you pay in total, with the bottle delivered to Netherlands. Nothing else follows afterwards.

This is a calculation, not a bid. Nothing on this page places one, and no figure you enter here is sent to the auction. Bidding happens on the lot page.

If someone outbids you

What the next few
bid steps come to

Priced for the same scenario you set out above. Bidding a step higher costs you more than a step, because the commission and the VAT climb with the hammer price.

The small print

What these figures
take for granted

The sum above runs on exactly the same rates and the same calculations as your invoice will. These are the few things that can still move it.

One lot at a time

This prices this lot on its own. Win several in the same auction and they travel together, so the shipping is charged once for the parcel rather than once per lot — which makes the real total lower than these pages added up.

Storage stays free for a while

Leaving a bottle with us costs nothing for the first 10 weeks after the auction. After that a storage fee applies, and it is not part of the figures above.

Pay on time

The total assumes the invoice is settled within the payment term. A late payment fee is charged on anything still open after that, and card payments from outside Europe or on a business card carry a surcharge.

Duty follows the bottle, not the price

Excise duty is worked out from the volume and the strength printed on the label. Where either is missing from our records the figure here is our best reading of the bottle, and the invoice follows what we measure.

Rates as they stand today

Duty rates, VAT rates and carrier rates are the ones in force right now. If a government changes one between the auction closing and your invoice, the invoice follows the new rate.

Outside the EU

We charge neither European VAT nor European excise duty on an order leaving the EU. Your own customs will charge import duties and taxes on arrival, at rates we have no sight of.
